Roots and Algorithms
Traditional knowledge, science and technology, told by the people who live on the land.
Roots and Algorithms (Raízes e Algoritmos) is an original Benthos documentary series about the meeting of traditional knowledge, science and technology. In each episode, frontline communities show how they are creating solutions for the ocean and the land: artisanal fishing, mangrove restoration, urban rivers, farming and community work led by women.
The first episode was filmed in Arraial do Cabo. Since then the series has travelled to Cabo Frio, Região dos Lagos, Nairobi and the Kenyan coast, São Paulo and Guanabara Bay. Some episodes became documentaries of their own.
