The Century-Old Fishery of Guanabara Bay
A Pesca Centenária da Baía de Guanabara
Premiere at Rio Ocean Week 2026, Museu do Amanhã
Festival selections

Synopsis
In Guanabara Bay, fishers keep curral fishing alive: a centuries-old fixed trap that uses the tide to guide fish into a pen with no way out. Uallace Santos has fished this way for ten years, but since July 2025 what the tide brings in has changed.
After the rescue of the first loggerhead turtle, the numbers kept growing. In 2026, two of them were tagged by researchers from Projeto Aruanã and given names: Anitta and Shakira. The documentary follows the meeting between traditional fishing and the researchers in search of an answer that does not exist yet: what draws an oceanic, endangered species into an urban bay?
